Drug Recognition Training

DRE School Applications are accepted only for scheduled classes. Applications must be approved by the State Coordinator.  You will be notified if your application has been approved. A link to the appropriate application is provided in the class listing. Currently scheduled classes are listed below.

The following courses are offered through the year. Descriptions include course prerequisites and requirements.



Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School for 2018

The application period is now open for the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School. Phase I of the course is being delivered Monday - Friday, February 5 - 16, 2018 in Bethpage, NY. Phase II will be conducted in Jacksonville, Florida in early March 2018.

Interested officers must submit their completed application, and supporting documentation, directly to GTSC via fax, email or U.S. Mail. Applications must be received at GTSC by close of business on Friday, October 27, 2017. The application can be found at http://safeny.ny.gov/DRE/dre-web/forms-dre.htm. Incomplete applications or late applications will not be considered. Interviews will take place on December 5, 6, and 7, 2017.

September 18 - 22 Drug Recognition Expert Training (DRE) Instructor School for 2017
Suffolk County Correctional Facility, 200 Suffolk Ave, Yaphank, NY 11980 Interested officers must submit their completed application, supporting documentation, and 15 minute teaching video directly to GTSC via fax, email, dropbox or U.S. Mail. Applications must be received at GTSC by close of business on Friday, April 28, 2017. The DRE Instructor application can be found at http://safeny.ny.gov/DRE/dre-web/forms-dre.htm. Incomplete applications or late applications will not be considered.

September 19 Mandatory Yearly DRE Recertification Training
Region #2
Zone 5 Law Enforcement Training Center, 121 Erie Blvd., Schenectady, NY
The training is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Bring your DRE Bag and a fully charged tablet.
See the course description, requirements and necessary forms to participate in DRE Recertification Training. The mandatory yearly training session is being offered to any DRE who needs to attend 8 hours of training for 2017. If you plan to attend, please contact the State Coordinator via email. You will receive a confirmation email to attend this course. IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND! This year you will conduct a full 12 step evaluation. If you need to recertify within the next six months and your paperwork is complete, you may bring it with you.

October 2 & 3 Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE)
Zone 5 Law Enforcement Training Center, 121 Erie Blvd., Schenectady, NY
The training is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

October 4 Mandatory Yearly DRE Recertification Training

Potsdam Police Department, 38 Main Street, Potsdam, NY
The training is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Bring your DRE Bag and a fully charged tablet.
See the course description, requirements and necessary forms to participate in DRE Recertification Training. The mandatory yearly training session is being offered to any DRE who needs to attend 8 hours of training for 2017. If you plan to attend, please contact the State Coordinator via email. You will receive a confirmation email to attend this course. IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND! This year you will conduct a full 12 step evaluation. If you need to recertify within the next six months and your paperwork is complete, you may bring it with you.

October 16 & 17 Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE)
Sheraton at the Falls, 300 3rd Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303
The training is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Application forms must be received by September 29, 2017
This course is a part of the New York Highway Safety Annual Fall Symposium. Students wishing to enroll in this course must also register for the Symposium. Symposium Registrations are available at itsmr.org. The registration fee is $225 which includes your meals.

2018 Upcoming DRE & ARIDE Training
     
February 5 - 16 Drug Recognition Expert Training (DRE) - Phase 1
Morrelly Homeland Security Center, 510 Grumman Rd W, Bethpage, NY 11714
Students who successfully complete Phase 1 will be sent to Jacksonville, FL for Phase 2 in early March 2018 for Field Certification Training.
