Drug Recognition Training

DRE School Applications are accepted only for scheduled classes. Applications must be approved by the State Coordinator.  You will be notified if your application has been approved. A link to the appropriate application is provided in the class listing. Currently scheduled classes are listed below.

The following courses are offered through the year. Descriptions include course prerequisites and requirements.


Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Instructor School for 2019

The application period is now open for the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Instructor 5 day School. Location will be State Police Headquarters, Troop G, 760 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, NY 12210 on April 29 - May 3, 2019.

Interested officers must submit their completed application, and supporting documentation, and 15 - 25 minute teaching video directly to GTSC via fax, email, dropbox or U.S. Mail. Applications must be received at GTSC by close of business on Friday, February 8, 2019. The DRE Instructor application can be found at http://safeny.ny.gov/DRE/dre-web/forms-dre.htm. Incomplete applications or late applications will not be considered.


Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School for 2019

The application period is now open for the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School. Phase I of the course is being delivered Monday - Friday, May 13 - 20, 2019 in Clinton, NY. Phase II will be conducted in Paterson, New Jersey in June 2019.

Interested officers must submit their completed application, and supporting documentation, directly to GTSC via fax, email or U.S. Mail. Applications must be received at GTSC by close of business on Friday, January 25, 2019. The application can be found at http://safeny.ny.gov/DRE/dre-web/forms-dre.htm. Incomplete applications or late applications will not be considered. Interviews will take place on February 27 - March 1 in Clinton.

Interviews will be conducted on November 26 & 27, 2018 at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 1 Crossroads Court, Newburgh, NY, 12550
Phase 1 will be Jan 21-Feb 1 at the Homewood Suites Newburgh-Stewart Airport, 180 Breunig Road, New Windsor, NY 12553
Students who successfully complete Phase 1 will be sent to Jacksonville, FL for Phase 2 on February 10 - 16 for Field Certification Training.

January 30 - 31 Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE)

February 21 & 22 Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE)

March 4 - 15 Drug Recognition Expert Training (DRE) - Interviews & Phase 1

Phase 1 will be March 4 - 15 at the NCPD Public Safety Building, 1194 Prospect Ave, Westbury, NY 11590
