DRE School Applications are accepted only for scheduled classes. Applications must be approved by the State Coordinator.  You will be notified if your application has been approved. A link to the appropriate application is provided in the class listing. Currently scheduled classes are listed below.

The following courses are offered through the year. Descriptions include course prerequisites and requirements.


Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School for 2019

The application period is now open for the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School. Phase I of the course is being delivered Monday - Friday, January 21 - February 1, 2019 in New Windsor, NY. Phase II will be conducted in Paterson, New Jersey in mid-February, 2019.

Interested officers must submit their completed application, and supporting documentation, directly to GTSC via fax, email or U.S. Mail. Applications must be received at GTSC by close of business on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. The application can be found at http://safeny.ny.gov/DRE/dre-web/forms-dre.htm. Incomplete applications or late applications will not be considered. Interviews will take place on November 26 & 27 in Newburgh.

Interested officers must submit their completed application, supporting documentation, and 15 minute teaching video directly to GTSC via fax, email, dropbox or U.S. Mail. Applications must be received at GTSC by close of business on Friday, September 28, 2018. The DRE Instructor application can be found at http://safeny.ny.gov/DRE/dre-web/forms-dre.htm. Incomplete applications or late applications will not be considered.

  2019 Upcoming DRE & ARIDE Training

January 21 - February 1, 2019 Drug Recognition Expert Training (DRE) - Interviews & Phase 1
Interviews will be conducted on November 26 & 27, 2018 at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 1 Crossroads Court, Newburgh, NY, 12550
Phase 1 will be Jan 21-Feb 1 at the Homewood Suites Newburgh-Stewart Airport, 180 Breunig Road, New Windsor, NY 12553
Students who successfully complete Phase 1 will be sent to Paterson, NJ for Phase 2 in mid-February for Field Certification Training.
